Samsung Galaxy S5 gets anti-theft features

08:52

Samsung is adding more anti-theft features in the Galaxy S5. American carriers Verizon Wireless and US Cellular have teamed up with Samsung to preload the Find My Mobile and Reactivation Lock applications on the Galaxy S5.

Samsung’s Find My Mobile is similar to Apple’s Find My iPhone feature that enables users to track a lost device, make it ring or wipe it clean remotely. Reactivation Lock is similar to what Apple is doing with iCloud/Apple ID authentication, which kicks in when someone tries to unlock the phone forcefully. Samsung’s Reactivation Lock can work even if the thief is able to successfully reset the device, CNET reports.

While these features go a long way in ensuring the safety of the user’s data on the phone and increasing chances or recovering a lost device, these still have a manual process where users have to activate them. Most users, however, do not activate it as many are unaware of their existence.
